How do I find the computer name (hostname)?

Using computer names makes it possible to distinguish between different computers. With some ISPs, the hostname is used to give a computer access to the Internet.

Windows
You can find the Hostname by holding down the Windows key on your keyboard and pressing the Pause/Break key.

The hostname is the Computer name and not the Full computer name.

How do I find the computer name (hostname) on Mac OS?

Mac OS

On an Apple computer, you can find the hostname by clicking on the Apple menu. Then select System Preferences.

Click on Sharing (see the screen below).

The computer name appears at the top of the window.
